Security and Moderation Settings Pt. 2

2.  Go to Admin -> Configuration -> Security and Moderation -> Anti-Spam:

Check:
 Require verification on registration page - Uses the verification methods you chose when you set up the registration process.

Uncheck:
 Guests must pass verification when making a post - Guests should never be allowed to post! If registration is not set to "Allow guests to browse the forum" (in General settings) this is not needed.

Guests must pass verification when reporting a post - Guests should never be allowed to report posts! If registration is not set to "Allow guests to browse the forum" (in General settings) this option is not needed.

Other:
 Post count under which users must pass verification to make a post - The number you set this to will make users have to pass the verifications you've set before making any posts. After the required number of posts, they may make posts without verification. Set it to zero for so no one is required to pass verification before posting. Any staff including moderators do not have to pass verification.

Maximum number of recipients allowed in a personal message - The number you set this to will only allow a user to send Pm's to the specified number of recipients at one time. This is useful to stop spammers from sending Pm's to all of your users at once. Set it to zero for no limit, admins are exempt from this rule.

Post count under which users must pass verification when sending personal messages - The number of posts required by a user to send Pm's without passing verification first. Set it to zero for no limit, admins are exempt.

Number of personal messages a user may send in an hour - Again, very useful against spammers. Setting it to a low number will not allow users to send Pm's as fast. However, setting this to a low number will make your regular users unhappy. It is better to put new users in a group that restricts sending Pm's until they reach a certain post count. Set it to zero for no limit, moderators are exempt.

Visual Verification & Verification Questions

* Note - Setting both visual verification (copying displayed letters/numbers) and verification questions will make the user have to pass both.

Visual Verification:
 Visual verification image to display
- The more complex the image the harder it is for bots to bypass. However, setting this too hard may also cause problems for users with bad eyesight or incorrectly configured monitors and browsers.

Verification Questions:
 Number of verification questions user must answer
- Set it to the required number of questions you wish the user to answer. Set it to zero to disable. When adding questions, they should be simple enough to answer and you do need to input a question as well as a corresponding answer. Questions should NOT be math related such as "What is 1+1?". Bots can get around this pretty easily.
