I'm running word press and other CMS thingies in my local host. so I can work and stay off line. Testing is much easier and the operations is much faster and it's just like Live, but only better.
May be a good Idea for those , like me who love to test systems and coding and themes. and yes they all have log-in for them so not to get, hacked if on a laptop or network!
I live for this stuff! :)

You will find all kinds needed stuff you can work with the local host the local severs as Steve mentioned above!
Just make sure you shut it down when finished, so not to use up you machines, resources!
