Post by: Skhilled on October 09, 2011, 01:59:17 PM
Here's a list of extra fees companies are charging that are ridiculous! This list is not complete but they do get the most complaints about the fees listed. Call these companies and complain as well as post them on review sites to help stop this.

1.  Early Termination Fees -- AT&T charges more than $300 to cancel a cellphone contract early and even charges customers for switching to another calling plan or upgrading their phone.

2.  Bank of America plan to charge $5/month for debit cards.

3.  Bank Account Inactivity Fee -- AmericaNet Bank charges $10 per month after a year of inactivity on your bank account.

4.  Towels/Hairdryer Hotel Fees -- New hotel chain Tune Hotels recently started charging for costs you'd think would be included in the room rate: $1.60 for a towel, $3 for the use of a hairdryer and $12 a day for room cleaning.

5.  'Business Select' Fee -- Pay Southwest Airline's "business select" fee of $10 or $20 and you get first boarding, an extra reward point and a free cocktail.

6.  Convenience Fees -- Ticketmaster, the behemoth ticket provider, says it charges convenience fees for the "convenience" of 24/7 ticket buying without having to drive to a box office.

7.  Seismic Safety Fees -- The University of California, Santa Cruz, recently raised its "seismic safety fee" from $25 to $40 a term. The money goes to improving the integrity of campus buildings to protect students in a quake.

8.  Environmental Fees -- In March 2010, U-Haul started charging $1 to $5 to offset its waste-disposal costs, calling it an "environmental fee."

9.  'On My Way' Fee -- This $25 to $35 fee by Air Canada "guarantees" that the airline will help you find a hotel, restaurant or flight if your flight is canceled. Isn't that just expected?

10. Land Line Fees -- Oklahomans with AT&T land lines started coughing up a 2% "line inspection fee" in February 2010. C'mon AT&T! Time to give it a rest.

11. "Face-To-Face" Fees -- Virginia legislators passed a $5 fee for drivers who renew their licenses at the Department of Motor Vehicles instead of online or through the mail, saying the fee replaced a proposed $5 increase for all licenses.

12. Carry-On Luggage Fees -- Baggage fee collection is a booming business. Airlines in the U.S. collected $769 million in baggage fees during the first three months of 2010 alone.

13. Counseling Fees -- Get hitched in Texas and you'll pay an extra $30 for your marriage license if you don't complete an eight-hour prenuptial counseling course.

14. Property Transfer Fee -- Freehold Capital Partners (Coldwell Banker uses this) has a new way to make money: require home sellers to pay 1% of the sales price to the home builder or other third parties each time the house is resold for 99 years, according to the Wall Street Journal.

15. Car Rental Early Return Fees -- Alamo charges $15 when a car is returned a day early, according to USA Today, and there are plenty of online complaints by customers of other companies that charge for early returns. Doesn't an early return mean you make more money by being able to rent the car again sooner???
