However, MS has backtracked on Auto Updates (due to the huge backlash) and are releasing a tool that allows you to block or uninstall updates that are suspected to be causing issues:

The tool that Microsoft posted is a good step, but the real solution would be to restore the options that were present in older versions, namely, the ability to select a scheduled time for downloading and installing updates.
