Title: Steve's Rig 2015
Post by: Skhilled on March 01, 2015, 08:55:22 AM
My current PC has a lot of issues. Some being:

1.  Getting very sluggish since the last 2 Windows upgrades.

2.  Still using Vista!  (http://www.docskillz.com/docs/Smileys/skhilled/ohmy2.gif)

3.  I built this one 5 years ago and the CPU is old. Using AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800 2.51 GHz 32-bit version.

4.  Some software will not update or install because of the old CPU or Vista.

5.  Only 4 GB RAM DDR2...should be at least 8GB.

5.  Stalls on boot up possibly due to BIOS upgrades. Using ASUS M2N-E Motherboard.

So, I've decided to build a new PC this year with my Tax Refund.

Since I didn't have anywhere to go yesterday, I decided to drive to the Philadelphia/St. Davids Micro Center  (http://www.microcenter.com/)location (they have various locations across the US) on an "info gathering" mission to see what I should get and how much I can expect to pay. The staff there are VERY knowledgeable and can answer all of your questions...I've been going there almost since they opened about 25 years ago! They have a vast array of products...almost anything you could every want for a computer or other device. Training for various needs is on location as well as they can build a computer for you while you wait!...for an extra fee. Books, software, nut and bolts of various sizes and colors, PC cases, fans...you name it! Trust me, you will be impressed! And they have different sales going on every week.

So, here's what I got so far:

Motherboard
ASUS A88X-PRO Socket FM2+ ATX AMD Motherboard (http://www.microcenter.com/product/423953/A88X-PRO_Socket_FM2_ATX_AMD_Motherboard#) - The link says "Out of stock" cause I bought the last one!  (http://www.docskillz.com/docs/Smileys/skhilled/hah.gif) This was $149.99 with a $25 instant savings and a $25 mail-in rebate! And because I purchased the CPU, listed below, they took another $40 off!  (http://www.docskillz.com/docs/Smileys/skhilled/ohmy2.gif)

CPU
AMD A10 7850K 4.0 GHz Black Edition Boxed processor (http://www.microcenter.com/product/427565/A10_7850K_40_GHz_Black_Edition_Boxed_processor) - This is listed at $149.99 at most places but was $119.99 there and helped me get the $40 off for the mobo above.  (http://www.docskillz.com/docs/Smileys/skhilled/dancebun.gif)

Memory
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) (http://www.microcenter.com/product/382101/Ballistix_Sport_8GB_DDR3-1600_%28PC3-12800%29_CL9_Dual_Channel_Desktop_Memory_Kit_%28Two_4GB_Memory_Modules%29#) - 2 sticks which I may take back for faster ones and 16GB instead of the 8GB these have...not that they are bad. I just started thinking I may want more.

So...I still need to get:

1.  PC case - preferrably toolless and plenty of space for drive bays and ventilation.

2.  DVD drive - the one I have is messed up.  (http://www.docskillz.com/docs/Smileys/skhilled/rolleyes.gif)

3.  Fans for the case

4. Power supply unit (PSU)

5.  SSD HD drive - for my primary drive for speed.

6.  1 or 2 TB HD for storage.

6.  Graphics Card (GPU) - the mobo does have on-board graphics so that is not needed right away.

7.  Win 8.1

And maybe a few bells and whistles like lighting for the inside of the case or colored screws to match the case.

Any updates or anything else I can think of will be added to this topic. :)

Sounds good so far Steve.  8)
You'll find a lot to like with Win 8.1 and a few parts that you do not... but there are work around for most.

My two top changes are to the start page, I installed Classic Shell (http://www.classicshell.net/) to replace that page full of charms. And the 'OneDrive'... my 8.1 laptop is stuck with the OneDrive icon down by my clock because, even though OneDrive can be disabled, it cannot be turned off.  :censored:

Anyways... I'm looking forward to reading about your progress as you do your build.  ;D

Ps: Any idea on your final cost?

Yes sounds very close to the one I built and build for others, I would get to 2 one TB drives at a High Cache  and at least 7200 rpm SATA. the Windows 8.1, I also like very lite on resources once you clean out what you don't want it's nice. ( note the Solid state drives run fast, until they build up some file then they get slower and slower) are very pricy!

I keep a in clone on the other drive ( secondary )!

has many apps you just delete and or high. as Ken mention you can set up a regular Desk top,
Some of the control Icons hidden but mostly on the bottom left and right sides.
You will find it very fast compared to Vista.

I have on my Intel windows 10
on my standby AMD ASUS PC I have windows 7
and on my Laptop I have windows 8.1

Once you you get hang of the Windows 8.1 you will like , I think!
Many don't like 8.1 cause they don't like the change!

"Yes it's been a long time coming, but change is gonna come oh yes it. " say one more time Sam!

if any of you guys need help, with you computers. I will try my best to help you out!

regards,
Maxx

Thanks. I plan on changing the Start Page because I've never liked it since Win 7. It's one of the reasons why I still use Vista. LOL

As for the cost, I usually spend around $500-600 but that is usually all in one shot. I plan for what I want then buy it all at once. This time I'll go a bit slower and spread it across several paychecks. This will allow me to spend a bit more. ;)

Yes, the SSD'd also tend to wear out faster from what I've been reading in reviews so the jury is still out on that.

So, I may opt for the two 1 TG drives. I always dual-boot with at least one version of linux and that would give me enough space for several distros to play with.

I also got paid Friday and didn't realize I had more in my account that I realized or I may have gotten a few more things.

I've read those reviews as well, but there seem to be many positives as well and to me the main one would be SSD speed as compared to other drives available... so if it were me building a new PC a small SSD, just big enough to hold the OS, would be my first choice for the main drive and then one or two regular (SATA) drives for programs and storage.

Me gonna enjoy seeing you build this one Steve.  :cool2:

Another thing that comes to mind is the sata connectors both on the drive and the cables are very fragile and break easily so plz take care those, and some with little like lock down levers one them so they do not come lose so easy. and make certain on Pwr supply that it has the correct plug type or types for the CPU power, so you may ask you friend before you by the power supply. Mine had dual fans and on off switch, some do not,

All dram and Video bus speeds must match the board, and I myself prefer to use the mid speed and if your gonna go 64 bit, make certain your favorite software will and all are 64bit as well. ( but some of the newer software will work in the 32bit mode on your windowz 7,8 and up, I run all at 64 Bit.

Maybe you know all this just a reminder on whatever!

I'm all for that and just surfing the web. and do your work on the HDD.  I can see some laptops doing better on SSD also! I think it great Idea for some things!

Yes, a SSD should be the primary drive so your PC and startup programs boot much faster. Programs you will load after bootup will also load a lot faster. You don't really need much more than 500GB for a primary drive unless you like to install a ton of programs and keep them all installed at once. Otherwise, you should put photos, videos, files you save or backup to your seconday or other drives. This will help keep your primary drive clutter free, mostly.

You should always be careful when connecting something to your mobo. If it breaks everything else may not work since it is the heart of your system. As for the PSU, I like dual fans as well for better airflow. However, this must also coincide with your case's airflow to maximize it. ;)

I tend to go midspeed as well. But I have overclocked a few times and have blown a board doing it. LOL So, I tend to stay on the low side, if I OC. When I built this board, 64 bit was the latest thing but the problem was only a few software manufacturers actually had software that actually used it. So, I stuck with 32-bit mode and do until this day, mostly because of Vista. I may go full 64-bit this time because you can use 32-bit compatibility mode for 32-bit programs which is a lot more reliable than it was years ago.

Actually, I was just looking at that same one on amazon.com and it's about $5 cheaper and I may even get it cheaper than that and with no shipping charges because I'm a Prime Member. ;)

Well Mine is running great I like WD best then any of them. The SGate 1TB some clam a small shock or bump can cause the to fail, at least a while back anyway!

But the WD is the best but no matter where you get it cheaper is better beware of shipping :)

Yes I think you'll be happy with it, they are very quite and I use Iorbit drefrag, as you know works in the background and you can even scan  defrag the boot sector and every so many boots, I think mine is set for every week, on the boot sector scan.

I know you know most of this stuff. just and FYI for others!

Maybe someone else can use this info!

OK, decided on a PC case. Watch the video about half way down the page for more info:

Corsair Carbide Series 300R Mid-Tower ATX Gaming Computer Case (http://www.microcenter.com/product/379532/Carbide_Series_300R_Mid-Tower_ATX_Gaming_Computer_Case)

My primary hard drive...for now:

WD Black 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA III 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive WD1003FZEX (http://www.microcenter.com/product/422867/Black_1TB_7,200_RPM_SATA_III_60Gb-s_35_Internal_Hard_Drive_WD1003FZEX)

And my DVD Writer:

Samsung SH-224DB24x SATA Internal DVD Burner OEM - SH-224DB/BEBE (http://www.microcenter.com/product/413641/SH-224DB24x_SATA_Internal_DVD_Burner_OEM_-_SH-224DB-BEBE)

All that is left is the PSU (which I may use my current one) and a video card which I'll get later since there is one built into the board and I don't game much on the PC, atm and Win 8.1... Not sure when I 'll get everything going yet...

I'd doubt I'd get a psu that large...it's overkill for me. LOL

And am pretty sure the 2 video cards are are prolly over $200 or more are not in the deck either....

I like the case, very cool and the HDD is the same I got, real  smooth very low vibration and noise, running it a while, no issues.

The IOrbit defrag works great on it, in the back ground. boots real fast!

And even though I have 2 ea. 1 TB HDD's I'm thinking that they may run slow if you don't keep the tidy ?
I feel in reality most could get by with the 350 or 500 GB HDDs and use a backup external HDD .

The DVD unit looks like it has all the good stuff. I use mine for install, movies and Music videos.

Some built machines/Laptops come without the DVD and the OS a;ready installed, Don't like that at all!
I have too many DVD's and CD's to give them up or have external hanging around! :)

Sorry Doc, adding some info for the visitors! :) I get carried away.

Good deal and the compound I always keep on hand, I like to clean and replace yearly, it gets dried up. The rest the unit and the heat sink and Fan I do every few months... Sounds like you got a good handle on things my good friend! :)

Just and FYI when you install and start up windows 8.1 you'll have some deleting to do on on those Apps and links to apps you do not want. If you have issue with windows 8, I have it, windows 7 and 10

Have fun Bro! I gonna miss out I love doing them machines!

This is my 4th rig so I know what to do but it's been 5 years since then and there were only maybe 3 different cpu's etc back then. Now there are way too many to keep up with. LOL

And I always get rid of the bloatware then image the drive without them so I can restore without the bloatware. ;)

That's a good looking product list.

Choosing between those two power supplies will be difficult, both priced about the same, both have good reviews with 70%+ 5 star ratings for both. Overall the EVGA seems to rate a little higher, so that would sway me if I was ordering.

When select the CPU. first visit the AMD or what ever manufacture's site look up the CPU use the complete numbers, and it will give you a spec chart as to what Ram they recommend to go with the CPU.

You should also find there the wattage and heat or temperatures and bus speed and other neat stuff.
Then you could best select the MOBO you'll need , or if you have a mother board, check if the cpu and ram will work well there.
Now there will some droughts, so what I do is look for the socket type, speed and bus and the wattage as low as I can, this is sometimes tricky, so you need to do some home work on those things! like you said there are many out there.

so may need to go back and forth several time looking for the CPU speed Power and Price, then match the ram according to the CPU and MOBO specs.

I love AMD myself. :)

hope this helps!

You should also figure in all cards you plan add such as video cards, etc as well as any devices you plan to plug into your USB ports...even if it is just for recharging their batteries. They will make a huge difference in how much power you'll be using. That being said, I have been considering getting a 750w since I plan to get a half-decent video card in the future.

Got the DVDBurner and HDD yesterday. The only problem I have is that the ad said it came with Nero Essentials...it didn't say that it was going to be a trial copy! Maybe I should have read the reviews more. :P But for $20 what do you expect?

Oh BTW, I would try to get a CPU that works well with Kingston Memory, all the others I've test had one or more strips came to me bad. I was really just suggesting how to match the board, CPU and memory and also wanted to let you I've had good luck withe Gigabyte MOBOs ! I had a few Asus top line boards that shut down after a few. I like ASUS but beware! :)

I have a ASUS 24" LCD/LED / monitor also ! Full HD HDMI/Digital/RGB watch hulu :)

The new Video cards Collect dust real fast in the their little fans! FYI.

Just thinking Bro!

I've used Gigabyte boards in the past and my current one is just that.

Yes, the newer cards have dual fans so good airflow is very important! ;)
Title: Re: Steve's Rig 2015

BTW, this new case can use up to 12 fans! So, unless I install them the wrong way I shouldn't have any cooling problems. LOL

Got the case yesterday and everything seems to be included. It does seem a tad flimsy. Especially, the way the door screws do in. More plastic than the metal I'm used to. It is toolless except for a few screws needed for the initial install. After that dvd's and drives slide in and out without any tools. And there's even a cutout for easy removel/changing of your CPU or water cooler!

Now I only need Windows and a PSU. However, I may use my old PSU just to get the things up and going. LOL

EDIT: Took another good look at the case. I like it but the trays for the drives are flimsy plastic but should work. They should also be less niosy than metal ones. We'll see and I should be bale to get more sturdy ones from somewhere if needed. I love the way you can route and hide the cabling! It also comes with black cable ties, etc. to help hide them and keep them tidy.  :cool2:

Yes they don't make the cases like they use to!

My AMD quad 2.9 GB ASUS is in a heavy case and the Intel quad 3.2  is is in a cheap case but sturdy steel. But for this ole fart the small case is easier to work with, small board Gigabyte both are for HG and HDMI on board and I gig video cards.

Using 4GB of memory on both and I run many programs at once. The only issue seem to be the FF takes allot of resources, But it's still my fav>! safer than the others!

I clean out the system ( flush ) out every week end! :)

Maxx

The case should be OK because once assembled it will rarely move, except for any case or card fans and some hard drives.
Engineering designs have evolved over the years too the point where the individual parts of a structure may be light weight or flimsy, but once everything is assembled it stiffens up and becomes more structurally sound.

Case in point, some motorcycle designs call for the engine to be part of the frame assembly instead of just sitting in the frame... and, speaking of motorcycles, I needs to get one and start riding again.  :hah:

I totally agree on the cases, and they much easier to work with. On memory I was not complaining , I guess was trying to hint you may not need 8gb at first, the newer windows runs allot better than the Vista, That was A hog on resources.
Actually I had 8GB and took some out, once the video card freed up some. Mine are working just fine with 4GB. :)

Well ,it does have good reviews so I'll try it and see. If I nee to make any "enhancements" I'll deal with it later.

Now, the only other things I will get later for it are some colored fans, matching colored cables and a video card. I haven't decided on the color of the fans and cables yet...maybe blue...as usual, like my other builds. Except for one which had tri-color fans. I'll also need a matching colored keyboard and mouse.

I like and use the thermo controlled Blue fans, and you may want check how many fan control plugs you have on the board, for the Thermo  controls? You should find that the new windows will not run so hot, like the Vista does, and much faster, with less stress in the machines inner resources!

The mobo is designed to accomodate 4 separate fans to be speed-controlled by the BIOS and are easily adjustable. The case can hold up to 10 fans! To add more than 4, I'd have to use a controller similar to this, which I have been looking at:

http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Technologies-5-4-Inch-Controller-AC-SEN-3-B1/dp/B00KJGYLNM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1427721827&sr=1-1&keywords=fan+controller (http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Technologies-5-4-Inch-Controller-AC-SEN-3-B1/dp/B00KJGYLNM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1427721827&sr=1-1&keywords=fan+controller)

That controls up to 5 fans individually...not including the ones connected to the mobo. You connect the fans directly to it and it fits in a bay just like a dvd player/burner. I plan on getting a nice video card later so it is possible that I may need more than the 3 fans included in the case.

Speaking of fans, I've decided on getting red fans and red cabling. The case comes with one black fan (in the rear) and 2 white fans (in the front).

The case seems very dust resistant! The cutouts for the drive bays actually have holes in them and are fitted with foam that can be cleaned. The bottom of the case has 2 openings for fans AND a removable dust screen for easy cleaning.

OK, back to building...I took a short break.  :hah:

Speed is very nice and much improved! Almost 10 sec to boot...without a SSD!

Spent the night updating and adding programs. If I stick my hand on the front panel it stays cold which tells me it is drawing in enough cold air. With my hand on the back it's not as cold but still cool so it's keeping it cool.

So far, an overall great experience. hardware and software installation was very quick and smooth. Even the 60+ windows updates took less than 20 minutes!

I added my previous video card nvidia 8600 GT...yeah, it's old but works very well! And added my old drives so I can get my bookmarks, files, etc...

Reusing old cards works well sometimes... my shop PC has a video card that has seen three different setups and still works well, even though it is a little dated by today's standards.  ;D

Sounds like this build is living up to your expectations?
Title: Re: Steve's Rig 2015
Post by: Skhilled on March 31, 2015, 06:09:06 AM
Pretty much for what I paid for it. :) There are actually some enhancements I did not expect and consider them as extras. :)

The inside of the case now looks uncluttered and cable-free mostly thanks to the ample room on the right side of the case behind where the mobo sits. Most of the open sides of the case are insulated with foam to keep dust out and can be easily cleaned. Instead of the drives being installed facing front to back...they are sitting sideways. The backside with the cabling is sitting toward the right side of the case where the cables are mostly hidden. The caddies they sit in seem to be made of cheap plastic but if it was hard metal then it would probably rattle and create more noise. ...and it is pretty quiet. I currently have it sitting on a table right next to the keyboard I'm typing on and it is as quiet or less that my previous one that was sitting near the floor! It is actually inches from my face!

The MIC and headphone inputs are on the front of the case (there are inputs in the back via direct MOBO input) instead of the back which is a good thing. Most older cases do not have this. You don't have to climb under a desk to insert the jacks. The BIOS comes with great software to control the fans, voltage, and auto flashing of the BIOS. The MOBO also came with software to use within Windows to control/change some of these on the fly! It has many nice features for the novice like a basic mode and a more advanced mode for overclockers who wish to squeeze every ounce of performance out of their system.

And of course, you can upgrade the hardware to get even more out of it later which will save me money. ;)

Sounds good the MOVs react in 1/10000's of second to kill/suppress out the 10 to 100's of thousands on RMS Volts of noise caused by lighting transmitted though high power lines during a storm.

The power lines act like Long wire Antennas use the HF transmission! I don't think there is anything to date that is faster than Metal Oxide Varisters. I use to install commercial grade 3 phase units on the Power li8nes going into factories. and labs like the solar Observatories  to protect the complete buildings wiring. FM radio station on top of High Mountains hit the antennas daily.

They take the noise straight to ground

Good stuff! smart move!

Maxx

LOL! It's just that for Vista they had separate programs for transferring the photos from the camera as well as editing, etc. Now, it's all in one program and works differently. I had a big problem with batch processing the photos. But I've finally got it sorted...after creating way too many extra copies! LMAO

I didn't actually take any photos of me putting it together cause it would have taken too long and I wanted it put together ASAP. I did take photos of each component separately.

Good Job Bro... looking good, I love that screen thing! MY ASUS machine case has small filter all over, but, just clean them with the VAC. you could do the same, if Vac is good and strong, it will pull dust from grill and fan if any!

The I'll take it apart every spring, for good cleaning and Preventive Maintenance.

I'm with Ken love that Case... good find! that MOBO looks real fine! I like the cooling system on it and I have one almost like it!

The front panel including the DVD drive bay blanks and fan areas have holes in the case with foam directly behind them and can be easily vacuumed or even removed for washing, if needed. If you put your hand on the front of the case it stays very cold but is very quiet.

I usually clean out my PC 1-2 times a year as well.

I'll take a pic with the right side off (when I get a chance) so you can see the tangled mess of cabling that is hidden. LOL

I was thinking...I may get a modular PSU later. Modular means less cables. You only use the cables you need by plugging them into the psu then into your hardware. Less cables to deal with. Something like this:

Logitech Multimedia Speakers Z200 (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/multimedia-speakers-z200?crid=47) - They adequate...for now. But not my usual musical standard. I may give them to one of my kids later for a full surround sound set like I had before.

Actually, their high end stuff is pretty good. It's the cheap ones that are not good. It's not as good as Bose or Klipsch but their high end stuff is a lot cheaper than those 2. Bose is probably the best tho...

I was thinking about getting these as they are surround sound.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/speaker-system-z523?crid=1589

The last set I bought had a subwoofer and 4 satelites...2 for the front and 2 for the back and could attach them to walls for a full surround sound experience.

What I do and this just me< I buy the sound equipment, Mix and match, the specs, and buy parts at a time> like the Denon Reliever, 100 watts RMS per Chanel times 5.1, got on special, the Pioneer Left and right Front priced at 800.00, I got on special for around 200, and the Pioneer Rear speakers.,(  all Speaker are rated 100 watts) It got cheap at 59.00 ea. the Polk Audio Sub woofer sound activated at around 100+ on super special.( has it own 80watt amp. Thunder if needed.

The Denon controls about 6 HDMI out puts, auto senses the inputs.

The thing is that I worked as Station engineer at a rock station, and I have a long Electronic back ground, I know what to to look for and I' very picky about the sound.

But when ever I listen to music, I use 3 Chanel stereo front and sub woofer. I 'll have give more details on the setup later, but it like the recording studio, but better.

Don't music in surround sound, it destroys the quality!

The ASUS sound chip set and system equalize works miracles, in find tuning the sound. keeping the amp (denon ( flat)

I have seen systems that cost thousands of dollars , that can match what I have :)

Unless your talking, live!

I do the same...for my home entertainment system, not for my PC. Pioneer is arguably the best, imo. Have used that brand for many, many years including their turntables when I used to DJ...those or Technics. Polk Audio is also very good. But for speakers you can't beat Bose! They are very expensive but the sound quality is unmatched.

I've been around recording studios for many years, Philly International, Sigma Sound to name a few as well as quite a few personal home studios for some Philly artists.

Surround sound does not destroy the sound quality IF it is setup correctly. The problem is that most people do not know how to set the quality of the sound to match the speaker placement .vs the other objects in the room. They also do not know how to correctly place all of the speakers so they work properly so it sounds like how it does in a good movie theater. ;) The arrangement of the other furniture in the room as well as what is on the walls or how they are built also makes a big difference. Think sound proofed room! I've built a few when I was in construction many years ago. ;)

Linksys is a good brand for routers and work well with linux...probably better than the rest. But that one is too expensive for me, for a router.

..and is now designed specifically for linux.

Crucial MX100 512 GB SATA (http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX100-2-5-Inch-Internal-CT512MX100SSD1/dp/B00KFAGCUM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1432913033&sr=8-3&keywords=500gb+ssd)

The solid state Drives, I think will get slow the more they are load up with Data!

So far not one issue with the WD Black 1TB, but I keep it maintained always!

That's not the SSD version, those are way too expensive. However, I will get a 500GB SSD for my main drive, eventually. This one is mainly for storage.

I might partition 500GB of it for linux but then again I do have another 1TB, a 500GB, and a 150GB. Hmmmm, might be best to transfer everything from the 500GB to one of the TB drives and use the 500 just for linux. Then I won't have to partition anything.
Title: Re: Steve's Rig 2015
Post by: Ken. on June 13, 2015, 08:38:16 AM
Using the 500 for Linux sounds the better plan... although, if it were me I would likely use the 150 for Linux and add the 500 as a second drive on it or the 2T.  ;D

EDIT: If you do decide to put Linux on the 2T you might want to read this:

Title: Re: Steve's Rig 2015
Post by: Skhilled on June 13, 2015, 08:43:17 AM
I thought of that but the 150 is pretty old. 500GB would work well, especially if I decide to use it a lot more. I'll probably need the extra room. I just need to decide what to do if I want to test a different distro. I may still partition one of the TB's for that.

Title: Re: Steve's Rig 2015
Post by: Skhilled on June 13, 2015, 08:58:12 AM
Yes, I know about that and that's the way you used to have to do it. And the preferred way it you'd like a larger /swap for maybe running it on a slower system.

Today, most distros will ask for a drive or partition and create the other partitions need within that one drive or partition. I've been using my 500GB for testing various distros. I partitioned it into 2 equal partitions. Before I install a distro, I'll wipe one of the partitions and during the install I'll just choose that one and let the install do its thing. You must choose "Custom" install for this or some distros will install to the first drive or partition it finds! That may not be what you want. Most linux distros will not touch a Windows partition but as they say, better safe than sorry! I have deleted a Windows partition once.  :groan:

You don't have to change anything else in the "Custom" settings. Linux will add it's own /swap, /etc, etc...(lol) partitions as needed. ;)

I use many Tascam equipments, when I work the FM station, for production live air stuff. Had many type Turn table back when, and wish I still had them!
I still have my Pioneer 25 disc CD player working great when I last tried it. You can find them any where now! Had a 75 disc at one time, gave it to my son and he sold it, :( Kids?
Love the Pioneer!

After using the program I suggested I got all my Intel drivers updated and install on my new Dell and now the HD works like it was designed to do, befor that it was boring, and widows 10 did not find the drivers I need!\

It comes only with one baggage ware and that is or can be uninstall as soon as you do you driver scan for free! works great! on 2 of my Intel Machines!

For AMD I did another post for those driver updated at the AMD support site just in the last few days!

The SSD hard drives are MUCH faster than standard hard drives and will dramatically increase the time it takes for your PC to boot and for programs to load. They were pretty expensive but have really dropped in price recently. If it wasn't for the price I would have got one for my primary C drive when I started building this.

The mounting kit is for installing it into a standard hard drive/DVD bay since they are much smaller. You screw it into the mounting kit then install it into your PC case as you would a normal extra or secondary hard drive.

Got 2 new parts yesterday:

Aperture M Multi-card Reader (https://www.nzxt.com/products/aperture-m)

Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB (16GB) 2400MHZ DDR3 Memory Sticks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233585) - And the red on them matches my red fans and the red inside the case!

Both of those sound great!  :hah:

Curious to hear what the ram will do for your speed.

Ok, I installed both and haven't tried the card reader yet. However, I have noticed an improved speed with loading programs! No more "Working on it..." as when you try to use File Manager, etc. Programs load right away!

At first, the BIOS only recognized the speed for 1333Mhz and these are 2400Mhz. So, after reading the motherboard's manual, I've found I had to tweak the O.C. settings and it worked! The programs did load faster even when using the 1333Mhz so that means more memory will load Windows faster! More Mhz speed will make it run even faster!

Going to go shower and out to the local diner for some pancakes and sausages! LOL

Thanks! I started to just go for 32GB but decided to use 16 to see how it goes. Now I'll probably go for another 16 to make it 32.
