wesniaphania

Just signed up wanted to give a quick HELLO

I need some help reloading a backup SQL file on a new server.

Skhilled

Hey! How's it going and welcome aboard!

Do you need to know how to do it or are you having problems doing it? If you are having problems doing it, please tell me how you are doing it and errors you get. Also, is it a very large file?

Sup bro! Idk why it took me so long to find your URL :censored:

The other Admin claims he is trying to recover it for the past week or so... but I wanna learn how to my damn self to see just how full of crap he is lol

I need some beginner courses

The only thing backed up was  this file
boo1302410223806-complete_2014-04-09.sql.zip  (6.17 MB in size, when Unzipped it's 31.8mb)
I'm using lvcs.net services, with a Cpanel

I made a feeble attempt at it myself by installing the SMF forums (with their Installatron) went to Restore a MySQL Database and uploaded the backup and then it opened another window with this message
Restoring Database
Restoring database "boo1302410223806-complete_2014-04-09.sql.zip"

BUT nothing changed
:groan:

It does not seem to be a problem from your explaination. :)

First thing is that it appears you are trying to import a zip file...you cannot do that. You need to extract that file using a zip/compression tool and you should find a .sql file...probably named "boo1302410223806-complete_2014-04-09.sql" or something else.

Then you'll want to go into cPanel and use phpmyadmin. Select the databse for the forum then click on "Import" over the middle of the page. It should ask for a file to upload. Use that file. Since the files is very small you should have no problems unless it is corruprted somehow.

That being said... You did not mention why or how you need to restore the backup. There are various ways to do that to get the forum back up and running, depending on your needs...

Ya i extracted the Sql file, it's 30mb...

Why... because the server bill didnt get paid, was waaay over due...we both thought it was on auto pay, which it had been for the past year, but for reasons unknown it was not last month ::) which im kinda suspect about...

I got the myphpbbadmin > Import page open, with the sql file ready to upload...which options should I choose?
I dunno what you mean by how I need to restore it

wesniaphania

I got this message when I uploaded it

That not too large so it should not be a problem. I ask because sometimes big files will cause the server to hang and not complete the process. When that happens you'll need to go at it in a different way.

That not what I meant, lol... I meant, were you doing it because you were having database issues or moving to new hosting, etc. Maybe the issue could have been resolved in a different way.

Partial Import: checked

That is just a log so you can "Empty" that table but do not "Drop" it! Empty will remove the values in it...Drop will delete the table itself which you do not want cause SMF will look for it.

wesniaphania

Ahh my confusion just went deeper. lol

No idea what you  meant by the last sentence.

I sent you a PM

Skhilled

The table in question "smf_log_search_subjects" is a log of the subjects that users have searched for. It is not important and the data in it can be deleted. It is usually deleted when you click "Delete all unimportany logs" in the admin...well, one of the things that gets deleted. The table itself is still needed by SMF to continue logging new searches so that is still need, just not the information contained in it.

wesniaphania

I just wanted to let everyone know that Skhilled restored our forums like a BOSS
